As you step into the beautiful, light-filled kitchen within this Cheshire home, you can’t fail to notice how well every detail works together to create a truly cohesive design. For the homeowners, it is all thanks to the natural elegance of CRL Stone’s exquisite Messina Gold quartz, which has effortlessly tied the scheme together to give their kitchen a fresh new look.

When the family approached LM Stone Creative, which specialises in providing bespoke stone worksurfaces, they were looking for help in refreshing rather than completely re-designing their open-plan kitchen. Large windows and doors flood the space with natural light and the homeowners wanted to inject a more modern and luxurious feel to their kitchen.

Previously, the surfaces, including the splashbacks and worktops, were clad in three different materials, which didn’t create a very cohesive design. So, LM Stone Creative knew that helping the homeowners pick one single surface that could be used throughout the kitchen was key to transforming the space.

The homeowners were introducing warm metallic accents to complement the colour scheme in their existing utility room and wanted a quartz surface that would accentuate them. They had opted for brushed gold handles and pulls to match their brushed metallic mixer tap, pendent lights and range cooker and needed a surface that would really tie the whole look together.

Although CRL Stone’s comprehensive quartz collection incorporates a variety of stunning gold- as well as bronze-veined quartz worktops, it was Messina Gold that really stood out to the homeowners.

Combining delicate gold veining with a crisp white background, CRL’s Messina Gold quartz is effortlessly elegant. Incredibly versatile, this stunning surface is designed to make a subtle design statement and work in harmony with any décor, from classic to contemporary. And, most importantly when it came to this kitchen, it’s the perfect partner for brushed metallic sinks, taps and accessories.

Not only was CRL Stone’s Messina Gold used for the worktops, upstands and splashbacks, but it also proved to be the perfect top for the custom dining table. “We previously had a glass table at the end of our island that we were keen to replace,” explains the homeowner. “So, LM Stone Creative made us a table slab as an extension of the island and recommended EliteHouse Maintenance who made us a table base that matched our existing wooden island – we are delighted with the result!”

The kitchen cabinetry was resprayed by Cheshire Transform and the Sage Green paint used on the island brings a splash of subtle, sophisticated colour to the space. It was continued on the adjoining table, extending the visual link between it and the island.  Although the table looks as though it is part of the island, it has been made so that it can be moved away from the island as and when required.

The homeowners couldn’t be happier with the end result. “We love it. It’s now had the facelift it so desperately needed and we really love the fresh, modern vibe that the Messina Gold surfaces have given the kitchen.” www.crlstone.co.uk

F. Ball and Co. Ltd’s Stopgap 1200 and dual-bond adhesive system have been used by flooring contractors from Harris & Hiscock Ltd. to install luxury Wilton carpet as part of the refurbishment of the On 5 restaurant at Ascot racecourse. Situated on the fifth floor of the grandstand, the flagship fine dining restaurant offers private hospitality and spectacular views of the track, a private balcony, roof terrace and bar.

Contractors applied F. Ball’s Stopgap 1200 smoothing compound throughout the entire area to create a perfectly smooth surface for floorcoverings. The product is formulated so that it can be applied over old adhesive residues, eliminating the need for mechanical removal and saving time in these situations. It is low-odour, self-smoothing and fast-drying. Applied at a thickness of 2-5mm, it is walk-on hard from 60 minutes and dry enough to receive floorcoverings in as little as four hours.

Contractors installed Wilton carpet in the entrance areas using a dual bond system. This involved using F. Ball’s Styccobond F3 to create a permanent bond between carpet and underlay, with the company’s Styccobond F40 providing a peelable bond between the underlay and subfloor. This prevents floorcoverings moving laterally when subject to normal foot traffic but allows them to be easily lifted without damaging the subfloor when it eventually needs replacing. Wood floorcoverings were then installed in the lounge areas.

Commenting on the project, Steve Hiscock, managing director at Harris & Hiscock Ltd., who supervised the work, said: “Everything went as expected and was completed ahead of Royal Ascot, and the client is made up with the result, so we’re very happy. We do a lot of work at the racetrack, and we have go-to products for these that we know we can rely on to meet high expectations.” Visit: www.f-ball.co.uk

Unilin Flooring has launched the updated Moduleo LayRed engineered vinyl flooring range, bringing performance improvements, a more natural look and new wood, tile and herringbone designs.  Launched in 2019, Unilin Flooring’s original Moduleo LayRed engineered vinyl flooring range has been used in some of the UK’s most significant housing projects.

Recently, Birmingham’s Great Charles Street, London’s Wood Wharf and Cardiff’s Verse have all used Moduleo LayRed to deliver a comfortable, quiet (21dB impact sound reduction), durable and easy to maintain floor. The new Moduleo LayRed range comes with improved features and brand new designs to ensure it continues to be the right choice for commercial projects needing an easy to install flooring solution. New LayRed comes equipped with Hydroseal that combines with the precision fit of Uniclic® to create a surface that water simply can’t penetrate: LayRed is now 100% waterproof. Scratch resistance has also been markedly improved with the Protectonite Plus® excimer coating.

A modern room with a metal cart holding a sculpture, flowers, and glasses. Beige walls, terrazzo floor, and a white bed create a calm atmosphere.

With added anti-abrasive protection it reduces micro scratches and heightens appearance thanks to an ability to show different gloss levels without losing its matt effect. Moduleo has also improved the bevel of LayRed with the floor now using a milled bevel that takes the pattern all the way to the edge for a more natural looking end result. Moduleo LayRed also features enhanced surface structures on selected designs.

Combining micro and macro textures, Refined Emboss (NEIR) adds many more depth levels for a richer and more realistic texture that makes the new Moduleo LayRed feel warmer, softer and more inviting. LayRed’s wood plank, herringbone and tile designs have also been improved. Alongside popular designs like Blackjack Oak, Moduleo has developed brand-new wood structures in richly grained Stanford Oak, Lockwood Oak and Dingle Oak or the elegance of Haarlemmer Oak and Wistman Oak.

Even existing designs have been given a little extra, Country Oak is now available in new colours with a rustic grain that has fewer marks and a less worn effect. 40 wood effects are available across small plank, medium plank and herringbone. Moduleo LayRed’s herringbone planks feature Unizip®, a click profile specially designed for herringbone floors that eliminates ‘A’ and ‘B’ planks for less waste and a faster install.

Tile designs have also been extensively updated. New Silky Satin comes in trending colours of terracotta and soft warm cream, while Izusa’s concrete design is in soft natural tones. Montecelio is another new tile pattern – a travertine stone with cut veins in matt tones of bone and grey. These join existing Balzano terrazzo and Mustang Slate. Small tiles come in Izusa and Mustang Slate, while medium tiles are available in nine designs.

Moduleo LayRed is made in Belgium using premium materials for a floor of impressive quality. It brings a durable, easy to maintain and waterproof floor with a Class 33 heavy commercial use rating. What’s more, LayRed comes with a minimum 22% pre-consumer recycled content*.
